Kickline

Kickline   oil/canvas   30 x 40 x 1.5

I love to dance.  And, as a dancer, I have always seen and felt the rhythms created by dancers in high volume.  And....here's  the big one, I have always felt that people who dance together could never be enemies.  My pipe dream is seeing the world dancing, a universal language.

There is a postcard that has been hanging on my inspiration board for over 20 years.  It features 5 women of various ages in a beautiful line.  The photo is by Dennis Deloria (copyright 1981) and features the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, which has been called by The San Francisco Chronicle "an opportunity to see America dancing".  Tools for Change.  The card is an SCW product featuring feminist, multicultural, lesbian/gay allied, racially inclusive and honors elders and children.

"Kickline" is my response to this conversation  It features a few of the artists from my watercolor class.  Many  reference photos were taken, and, unfortunately, some dancers were not included due to the tangling of legs and arms....my own faulty and hurried direction.  (I prefer a more hurried photo session, which seems less planned and fresher but invites more mistakes).  Visual art = another universal language.

"If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution"  Emma Goldman

My thoughts, exactly.
