                                              Slice   oil.canvas  11 x 14 x .5

This simple slide caused me no much grief!   I'm afraid that I fixated on the subtle nuances of the fibrous fruit and, in doing so, the reds became darker and darker.

No re-do.  Just a note to self...for the next time I paint this glorious and delicious fruit!

Keeping it Simple

Just a Simple Bouquet   watercolor   11 x 8.5

We are also story tellers, we visual artists.  And, just like writers, there are a myriad of ways to tell your story, dependant on how many details and embellishments you prefer.

I have a theory....maybe it is just for me.  I believe that each picture plane possesses a limited amount of visual power.  Therefore, the more objects (shapes) are sharing the space, the less power each form holds. And, as I enjoy impact and an interaction between positive and negative spaces,  I prefer fewer shapes and allowing the negative space (background) to possess more power.  Poetry vs. prose.

A higher word count does not guarantee success.
