She Dreams of Flight oil/canvas 30 x 20 x 1.5 This painting was accomplished with a photo reference, one of many I shot a few years ago at the University Circle parade in Cleveland, Ohio. The parade is unparalleled...a spectacle of joy! This little girl wore a pair of dollar store wings....Actually, a few years ago, I purchased a pair myself, as their magic awoke the aspiring little girl in me. Because I had only a rear view, I was able to paint an idea, without conforming to the notion of likeness. I saw the universal in her, the desires of each person to fly, to become, to attain, irregardless of cultural restrictions. I became that little girl. I wish her only happiness and joy.

My Hat...

goes off to plein-air painters everywhere.  Or should I say "blows off"?  My Sunday was spent at Wendy Park just off the flats in Cleveland painting in the Color Me Cleveland event.  Traditionally a studio painter where everything I need and want is at my fingertips, making the adjustment to outdoor painting is always a challenge and a bit of a surprise.  The wind gusts were unbelievable!  Even the duct tape gave way at one point as the painting sailed off and landed, of course, face down in the dry grass.  What's a bit of texture?  Then the final gust mid-afternoon tipped over my tray table holding the turp, the medium and the olive oil which were quickly absorbed into the hard ground.  The painting was left a bit unresolved, but I was finished for the day.

Day Tripping

Cleveland is an hour's drive from Akron and there are so many places to view and appreciate art. My fellow artist Mina Huang really enjoyed the current exhibition at MOCA...superlight, a digital display and Christian Wulffen's "It is, It is not". Mina is an engineer by day and so appreciated this cutting-edge, technology-based art. These exhibits are in their final week. My work is represented in the annual exhibit at Artist's Archives on the east side in the University Circle area. Fellow artists Mitzi Lai and Trisha Kaman, also members of The Akron Society of Artists, both are represented in this exhibition.
